NEW THIS YEAR! The college MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement) directors are teaming up with the Association of Washington Business and the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges to assist MESA students interested in internship opportunities. Students who would like to participate in an internship are encouraged to talk with their MESA director and download an application. While no student will be guaranteed an internship, every effort will be made to place as many applicants as possible.

Why Choose an Internship:

  • Internships are an excellent way to gain experience and apply learned material in a real world setting
  • 97.6% of interns recommend internships to other students
  • Internships may be paid or unpaid, 48.3% of internships were paid in 2014
  • Students who have participated in at least one internship are more likely to get a full time job compared to those who did not complete an internship

How to Find an Internship:

  • Career/job fairs and other on-campus recruiting activities to recruit interns
  • 48% of students use Google to find internships while 43.3% use friends as a source
  • Research companies in industries or businesses that match your education program, background, and/or interest
  • College Career Centers are a great tool to utilize when looking for an internship

Ways to Prepare for Your Internship:

  • Great resumes pave the way for great interviews
  • Showcase how your skills would be a good fit for a company
  • Have at least three references for your resume
  • For undergraduates, it is ok to list high school related information on a resume
